Florence E. Bacabac, Ph.D.

I was born in the Philippines and received my B.A. and M.A. in English (Language) from University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. I also earned an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Writing from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. My dissertation reflects my interest in composition pedagogy and the use of collaborative invention tools in computer-mediated classrooms. I have published my research in Composing Feminist Interventions: Activism, Engagement, Praxis (ed. by Kristine Blair and Lee Nickoson); Computers and Composition Online;  Peitho: Journal of the Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition; Journal of Teaching Writing; Business and Professional Communication Quarterly; and Journal of Business and Technical Communication, among others.

I have been teaching professional and technical writing courses in English at Utah Tech University since 2008 and organized a Women’s Resource Center on campus in 2012-2013 (now expanded to the Student Resource Center) where access to resources, mentoring, and support are given to female students across the disciplines for their academic and professional development. In 2019, I began teaching at the department’s new M.A. program in technical writing and digital rhetoric.

I currently serve as manuscript reviewer for refereed journals in the fields of digital composition and business/technical communication, including Business and Professional Communication QuarterlyJournal of Business and Technical Communication, Computers and Composition: An International Journal, and Computers and Composition Online.  My research interests center around computers and writing, writing for interactive media, digital rhetoric, professional/business and technical writing, writing across the curriculum, writing in the disciplines, community-engaged learning, second language writing, and women’s rhetoric.  For more information, visit my professional website at http://florenb07eportfolio.weebly.com/.

In my spare time, I love to read, write, and play the piano.
