Technical Writing & Digital Rhetoric, M.A.

Graduate Instuctor Application

Are you interested in a graduate instructorship?

The M.A. in TW&DR program offers several graduate instructorships each year. Graduate instructors (GIs) usually teach 3 sections of first-year writing each year at the regular adjunct pay rate of $925 per credit hour (for a total of $11,100 per year). These instructorships are renewable for a second year, given satisfactory performance in both teaching and graduate coursework (for more information, see UT Policy 705). GIs must be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester and maintain good standing in the program. GIs will attend a week-long workshop before classes begin in the fall and will enroll in a practicum during their first semester (ENGL 6820) to receive intensive training in teaching first-year writing.

GIs will need to be available to teach during the day. Most GIs, especially during the first year, will be assigned classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the morning and/or early afternoon and will be required to take a 3-credit practicum during the fall semester.
