I grew up in Fruit Heights, UT, which is about thirty minutes north of Salt Lake City. I have taught students from sixth grade to graduate school, and I love working with students of all ages and backgrounds. Having worked in both secondary and postsecondary education, I am particularly interested in helping students develop the literacy background they need to support their educational and professional goals. This interest caused me to focus on composition studies and English education during my doctoral studies and has informed my research on literacy education in pre-college outreach programs. I have a forthcoming book from Routledge that presents the findings from this research. I have taught courses in composition, TESOL, and teacher education.
